PTFE (TFE) and PVDF both are on allocation.
Teflon product PTFE (TFE) along with PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide need for this mineral has risen significantly, along with the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and incredibly low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used throughout dozens of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for personal use. This specific mineral is actually the important raw materials in the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and a lot of refrigerants. This increase in demand joined together with general shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to keep at it in the near future.
